HCG is pleased to announce the addition of Catherine Welker to their team in the newly created position of marketing and communications coordinator. She has assumed responsibility for all internal and external communications for the organization.
“This spring we hired Mitch Anthony and his company Clarity to talk to our constituents about their perceptions of HCG,” says Todd Ford, executive director. “The people we serve reported high satisfaction with our performance, but they also indicated that we have an image problem. So, with Clarity’s help, we are going to focus attention on telling our story more clearly.”
In her new role, Catherine will work with Clarity to redesign the organization’s website and communication materials, and to develop and manage a marketing program that integrates public relations, direct response, and digital marketing media. She will also be a key contributor to the content development of he website redesign.
“Clear communications are central to HCG’s mission of empowering local, sustainable and efficient economies in western Massachusetts,” says Welker. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to learn from the creative minds at Clarity, and excited to tell HCG’s inspiring story in this critical time for the organization.”
Catherine brings over a decade of experience to this position, having created and implemented complex and long-term strategic media and social media plans for nonprofit organizations and campaigns. As a former press officer for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, she was responsible for writing and communicating advocacy media on behalf of the organization nationally. At The White House, she traveled ahead of President Barack Obama and Vice President Biden, managing on the ground logistics for public events. She was also an instrumental member of both the communications and advance teams for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
“Catherine Welker’s experience will be a tremendous asset to the work we have already begun. Her hire is a renewed commitment to HCG’s crystal clear communications with the communities we serve,” says Ford.
HCG supports communities by empowering local, sustainable and efficient economies. The organization helps cities and towns, schools, nonprofits and businesses get the most value by pooling their buying power. HCG’s Hampshire Power provides electricity services, including green and locally produced electricity. HCG Purchasing Co-op makes it easy for towns, cities, schools and nonprofits to save money, time, and effort on major and everyday purchases. And HCG supports communities with its own, uniquely effective service organizations: RSVP and Tobacco Free Community Partnership. Every cent HCG earns goes back to supporting the communities of western Massachusetts. HCG is funded by its own revenue.
